Heavenly Father, please move in the lives of the lost, the forgotten, and the despairing. Please rescue them from their pain.

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for December 7th

Today is the 7th of December.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the Holman Christian Standard Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Hosea 6:1-9:17.  We will continue with 3 John 1-14, Psalms 126:1-6 and Proverbs 29:12-14.

Hosea 6:1-9:17

 1 Come, let us return to the LORD.
    For He has torn [us],
    and He will heal us;
    He has wounded [us],
    and He will bind up our wounds

    2 He will revive us after two days,
    and on the third day He will raise us up
    so we can live in His presence.

    3 Let us strive to know the LORD.
    His appearance is as sure as the dawn.
    He will come to us like the rain,
    like the spring showers that water the land.

 4 What am I going to do with you, Ephraim?
    What am I going to do with you, Judah?
    Your loyalty is like the morning mist
    and like the early dew that vanishes.

    5 This is why I have used the prophets
    to cut them down;
    I have killed them with the words of My mouth.
    My judgment strikes like lightning.

    6 For I desire loyalty and not sacrifice,
    the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

    7 But they, like Adam, have violated the covenant;
    there they have betrayed Me.

    8 Gilead is a city of evildoers,
    tracked with bloody footprints.

    9 Like robbers who wait in ambush for someone,
    a band of priests murders on the road to Shechem.
    They commit atrocities.

    10 I have seen something horrible in the house of Israel:
    Ephraim’s promiscuity is there; Israel is defiled.

    11 A harvest is also appointed for you, Judah.
    When I return My people from captivity,

 1 when I heal Israel,
    the sins of Ephraim and the crimes of Samaria
    will be exposed.
    For they practice fraud;
    a thief breaks in;
    a gang pillages outside.  (more…)

Father God, please take under your wing all expectant mothers. May they rely on You and give to You all their worries and fears.

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for December 6th

Today is the 6th of December.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the Holman Christian Standard Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Hosea 4:1-5:15.  We will continue with 2 John 1-13, Psalms 125:1-5 and Proverbs 29:9-11.

Hosea 4:1-5:15

 1 Hear the word of the LORD, people of Israel,
    for the LORD has a case
    against the inhabitants of the land:
    There is no truth, no faithful love,
    and no knowledge of God in the land!

    2 Cursing, lying, murder, stealing,
    and adultery are rampant;
    one act of bloodshed follows another.

    3 For this reason the land mourns,
    and everyone who lives in it languishes,
    along with the wild animals and the birds of the sky;
    even the fish of the sea disappear.

    4 But let no one dispute; let no one argue,
    for My case is against you priests.

    5 You will stumble by day;
    the prophet will also stumble with you by night.
    And I will destroy your mother.

    6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
    Because you have rejected knowledge
    I will reject you from serving as My priest.
    Since you have forgotten the law of your God,
    I will also forget your sons.

    7 The more they multiplied,
    the more they sinned against Me.
    I  will change their honor into disgrace.

    8 They feed on the sin of My people;
    they have an appetite for their transgressions.

    9 [The same judgment] will happen
    to both people and priests.
    I will punish them for their ways
    and repay them for their deeds. (more…)

Hosea 1:1-3:5

 1 The word of the LORD that came to Hosea son of Beeri during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel.

2 When the LORD first spoke to Hosea, He said this to him:
    Go and marry a promiscuous wife
    and [have] children of promiscuity,
    for the whole land has been promiscuous
    by abandoning the LORD.

    3 So he went and married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. 4 Then the LORD said to him:
    Name him Jezreel, for in a little while
    I will avenge the bloodshed of Jezreel
    on the house of Jehu
    and put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.

    5 On that day I will break the bow of Israel
    in the valley of Jezreel.

    6 She conceived again and gave birth to a daughter, and the LORD said to him:
    Name her No Compassion,
    for I will no longer have compassion
    on the house of Israel.
    I will certainly take them away.

    7 But I will have compassion on the house of Judah,
    and I will deliver them by the LORD their God.
    I will not deliver them by bow, sword, or war,
    or by horses and cavalry.

    8 After Gomer had weaned No Compassion, she conceived and gave birth to a son. 9 Then the LORD said:
    Name him Not My People,
    for you are not My people,
    and I will not be your God. (more…)

Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer for December 4th

Today is the 4th of December.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the New International Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Daniel 11:36-12:13. We will continue with 1 John 4:1-21, Psalms 123:1-4 and Proverbs 29:2-4.

Daniel 11:36-12:13

 36 “Then the king will do whatever he wants. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god, and he will say outrageous things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, because what has been decreed will be accomplished. 37 He will not show regard for the gods of his fathers, the god longed for by women, or for any other god, because he will magnify himself above all. 38 Instead, he will honor a god of fortresses—a god his fathers did not know—with gold, silver, precious stones, and riches. 39 He will deal with the strongest fortresses with [the help of] a foreign god. He will greatly honor those who acknowledge him, making them rulers over many and distributing land as a reward.

    40 “At the time of the end, the king of the South will engage him in battle, but the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, horsemen, and many ships. He will invade countries and sweep through them like a flood. 41 He will also invade the beautiful land, and many will fall. But these will escape from his power: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of the Ammonites. 42 He will extend his power against the countries, and not even the land of Egypt will escape. 43 He will get control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the riches of Egypt. The Libyans and Cushites will also be in submission. 44 But reports from the east and the north will terrify him, and he will go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 He will pitch his royal tents between the sea and the beautiful holy mountain, but he will meet his end with no one to help him. Please pray 4 our brave military men & women. May God be with them through every decision, every step, & every fear.

Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer for December 3rd

Today is the 3rd of December.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the New International Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Daniel 11:2-35. We will continue with 1 John 3:7-24, Psalms 122:1-9 and Proverbs 29:1.

Daniel 11:2-35

2 Now I will tell you the truth.

    “Three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth will be far richer than the others. By the power he gains through his riches, he will stir up everyone against the kingdom of Greece. 3 Then a warrior king will arise; he will rule a vast realm and do whatever he wants. 4 But as soon as he is established, his kingdom will be broken up and divided to the four winds of heaven, but not to his descendants; it will not be the same kingdom that he ruled, because his kingdom will be uprooted and will go to others besides them.

 5 “The king of the South will grow powerful, but one of his commanders will grow more powerful and will rule a kingdom greater than his. 6 After some years they will form an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the South will go to the king of the North to seal the agreement. She will not retain power, and his strength will not endure. She will be given up, together with her entourage, her father, and the one who supported her during those times. 7 In the place of the king of the South, one from her family will rise up, come against the army, and enter the fortress of the king of the North. He will take action against them and triumph. 8 He will take even their gods captive to Egypt, with their metal images and their precious articles of silver and gold. For some years he will stay away from the king of the North, 9 who will enter the kingdom of the king of the South and then return to his own land.

    10 “His sons will mobilize for war and assemble a large number of armed forces. They will advance, sweeping through like a flood, and will again wage war as far as his fortress. 11 Infuriated, the king of the South will march out to fight with the king of the North, who will raise a great multitude, but the multitude will be handed over to his enemy. 12 When the multitude is carried off, he will become arrogant and cause tens of thousands to fall, but he will not triumph. 13 The king of the North will again raise a multitude larger than the first. After some years he will advance with a great army and many supplies. (more…)

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for December 2nd

Today is the 2nd of December.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the New International Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Daniel 9:1-11:1. We will continue with 1 John 2:18-3:6, Psalms 121:1-8 and Proverbs 28:27-28.

Daniel 9:1-11:1

1 In the first year of Darius, who was the son of Ahasuerus, was a Mede by birth, and was ruler over the kingdom of the Chaldeans— 2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the books according to the word of the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet that the number of years for the desolation of Jerusalem would be 70. 3 So I turned my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and petitions, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.

    4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed:

    Ah, Lord—the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps His gracious covenant with those who love Him and keep His commandments— 5 we have sinned, done wrong, acted wickedly, rebelled, and turned away from Your commandments and ordinances. 6 We have not listened to Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, leaders, fathers, and all the people of the land.

    7 Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but this day public shame belongs to us: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel—those who are near and those who are far, in all the countries where You have dispersed them because of the disloyalty they have shown toward You. 8 LORD, public shame belongs to us, our kings, our leaders, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You. 9 Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord our God, though we have rebelled against Him 10 and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by following His instructions that He set before us through His servants the prophets. Please pray 4 the lost, the forgotten, and the despairing. Pray that the Spirit moves in their lives and rescues them from their pain.

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for December 1st

Today is the 1st of December.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the New International Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Daniel 8:1-27. We will continue with 1 John 2:1-17, Psalms 120:1-7 and Proverbs 28:25-26.

Daniel 8:1-27

1 In the third year of King Belshazzar’s reign, I, Daniel, had a vision, after the one that had already appeared to me. 2 In my vision I saw myself in the citadel of Susa in the province of Elam; in the vision I was beside the Ulai Canal. 3 I looked up, and there before me was a ram with two horns, standing beside the canal, and the horns were long. One of the horns was longer than the other but grew up later. 4 I watched the ram as he charged toward the west and the north and the south. No animal could stand against him, and none could rescue from his power. He did as he pleased and became great.

 5 As I was thinking about this, suddenly a goat with a prominent horn between his eyes came from the west, crossing the whole earth without touching the ground. 6 He came toward the two-horned ram I had seen standing beside the canal and charged at him in great rage. 7 I saw him attack the ram furiously, striking the ram and shattering his two horns. The ram was powerless to stand against him; the goat knocked him to the ground and trampled on him, and none could rescue the ram from his power. 8 The goat became very great, but at the height of his power his large horn was broken off, and in its place four prominent horns grew up toward the four winds of heaven.

 9 Out of one of them came another horn, which started small but grew in power to the south and to the east and toward the Beautiful Land. 10 It grew until it reached the host of the heavens, and it threw some of the starry host down to the earth and trampled on them. 11 It set itself up to be as great as the Prince of the host; it took away the daily sacrifice from him, and the place of his sanctuary was brought low. 12 Because of rebellion, the host of the saints and the daily sacrifice were given over to it. It prospered in everything it did, and truth was thrown to the ground.

 13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to him, “How long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled—the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, and the surrender of the sanctuary and of the host that will be trampled underfoot?” (more…)

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for November 30th

Today is the 30th of November.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the New International Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Daniel 7:1-28. We will continue with 1 John 1:1-10, Psalms 119:153-176 and Proverbs 28:23-24.

Daniel 7:1-28

 1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying on his bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream.

 2 Daniel said: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. 3 Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea.

 4 “The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a man, and the heart of a man was given to it.

 5 “And there before me was a second beast, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and eat your fill of flesh!’

 6 “After that, I looked, and there before me was another beast, one that looked like a leopard. And on its back it had four wings like those of a bird. This beast had four heads, and it was given authority to rule.

 7 “After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.

 8 “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke boastfully.

 9 “As I looked,
       “thrones were set in place,
       and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
       His clothing was as white as snow;
       the hair of his head was white like wool.
       His throne was flaming with fire,
       and its wheels were all ablaze.

 10 A river of fire was flowing,
       coming out from before him.
       Thousands upon thousands attended him;
       ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
       The court was seated,
       and the books were opened. (more…)

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for November 29th Daniel 6:1-28, 2 Peter 3:1-18, Psalms 119:129-152, Proverbs 28:21-22

Father God, please take under your wing all expectant mothers. May they rely on You and give to You all their worries and fears.

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for November 29th

Today is the 29th of November.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the New International Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Daniel 6:1-28. We will continue with 2 Peter 3:1-18, Psalms 119:129-152 and Proverbs 28:21-22.

Daniel 6:1-28

1 It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, 2 with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss. 3 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4 At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. 5 Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.”

 6 So the administrators and the satraps went as a group to the king and said: “O King Darius, live forever! 7 The royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or man during the next thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. 8 Now, O king, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” 9 So King Darius put the decree in writing.

 10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. 11 Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help. 12 So they went to the king and spoke to him about his royal decree: “Did you not publish a decree that during the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or man except to you, O king, would be thrown into the lions’ den?”
      The king answered, “The decree stands—in accordance with the laws of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” (more…)

Daily Bible Reading, Thoughts, and a prayer for November 28th

Today is the 28th of November.  This is the Daily Bible Reading, thoughts, and prayer starter for today.  Today we are reading from the New International Version Bible.  We’ll begin today from Daniel 5:1-31. We will continue with 2 Peter 2:1-22, Psalms 119:113-128 and Proverbs 28:19-20.

Daniel 5:1-31

 1 King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them. 2 While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. 3 So they brought in the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. 4 As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.

 5 Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote. 6 His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his knees knocked together and his legs gave way.

 7 The king called out for the enchanters, astrologers and diviners to be brought and said to these wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”

 8 Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. 9 So King Belshazzar became even more terrified and his face grew more pale. His nobles were baffled.

 10 The queen, hearing the voices of the king and his nobles, came into the banquet hall. “O king, live forever!” she said. “Don’t be alarmed! Don’t look so pale! 11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. King Nebuchadnezzar your father—your father the king, I say—appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners. 12 This man Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar, was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.” (more…)
